JEE Main 2027 eligibility criteria
You can appear for JEE Main 2027 if you passed Class 12 in 2025 or 2026, or are appearing for it in 2027. There is no age limit.
| Criterion | Requirement |
|---|---|
| Year of passing Class 12 | 2025, 2026, or appearing in 2027 |
| Age limit | None |
| Subjects for B.E./B.Tech (Paper 1) | Physics and Mathematics, plus one of Chemistry, Biology, Biotechnology or a technical vocational subject |
| Subjects for B.Arch (Paper 2A) | Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics |

The 75% criterion for NITs, IIITs and GFTIs
To get admission to an NIT, IIIT or GFTI through JEE Main, you also need at least 75% marks in Class 12 (65% for SC and ST candidates), or a place in the top 20 percentile of your Class 12 board. This does not affect your eligibility to write the exam, only admission. Check each institute’s rules before counselling.

What is new in JEE Main 2027 registration
- Aadhaar-based details: NTA takes your name, date of birth, gender, photo and address from UIDAI. Make sure your Aadhaar matches your Class 10 certificate.
- MeriPehchaan login: Registration can be done through the MeriPehchaan single sign-on, linked to DigiLocker.
- One form only: If you submit more than one form, only the paid one is kept. Appearing with multiple application numbers is treated as unfair means.

Marking scheme
| Answer | Marks |
|---|---|
| Correct (MCQ or numerical) | +4 |

Participating institutes and JEE Main cut-off
JEE Main scores are used for B.E./B.Tech, B.Arch and B.Planning admissions at NITs, IIITs and Government Funded Technical Institutes (GFTIs) through JoSAA counselling. Many state and private universities also accept JEE Main scores. The top 2.5 lakh Paper 1 candidates qualify to write JEE Advanced for IIT admission.
JEE Main 2026 qualifying percentile for JEE Advanced
In 2026, 2,50,182 candidates qualified for JEE Advanced. These were the minimum percentiles by category:
| Category | Qualifying percentile (2026) |
|---|---|
| General (UR) | 93.41 |
| Gen-EWS | 82.42 |
| OBC-NCL | 80.92 |
| SC | 63.92 |
| ST | 52.02 |
| PwD (UR) | 0.0023 |
The qualifying percentile only makes you eligible for JEE Advanced. Getting a seat at a top NIT or IIIT through JoSAA usually needs a much higher percentile, depending on the branch and institute.
JEE Main 2027 preparation strategy for the next 12 weeks
With about 12 weeks to Session 1, finish the syllabus by early December, then shift to previous-year papers and full mock tests. Treat Session 1 as your main attempt and Session 2 as a chance to improve.
A 12-week plan to Session 1
| Weeks | Dates (approx.) | Focus |
|---|---|---|
| 1 to 4 | Nov 1 to Nov 28 | Complete pending chapters; register before Nov 22; one chapter test daily |
| 5 to 7 | Nov 29 to Dec 19 | Revise Class 11 topics; solve JEE Main papers from the last 5 years, chapter-wise |
| 8 to 10 | Dec 20 to Jan 9 | 3 full mocks a week in your shift timing; analyse every mock; check city slip on Dec 30 |
| 11 to 12 | Jan 10 to Jan 19 | Formula and NCERT revision; light mocks; download admit card on Jan 13 |
Subject-wise tips
- Physics: Focus on high-weight areas such as modern physics, electrostatics, current electricity and mechanics. Practise numericals daily.
- Chemistry: Read NCERT line by line for inorganic chemistry. It is the fastest-scoring subject when well prepared.
- Mathematics: Prioritise calculus, coordinate geometry, vectors and 3D, and algebra. Maths takes the longest in the exam, so practise speed.
Exam strategy
- Start with your strongest subject to build confidence and save time.
- Move on from any question that takes more than 2 to 3 minutes.
- Attempt numerical questions carefully, because they now carry negative marking.
- Keep the last 10 minutes to review marked questions.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Ignoring NCERT, especially for Chemistry.
- Taking mocks without analysing them.
- Spending too long on one tough question.
- Leaving registration until the last day.
Admit card, exam day, answer key, result and JoSAA counselling
For Session 1, the city slip comes on December 30, 2026, the admit card on January 13, 2027, and the result in February 2027.
City slip and admit card
- The city intimation slip tells you your exam city in advance, so you can plan travel.
- Download the admit card from jeemain.nta.nic.in with your application number and password.
- Check your name, photo, exam centre, shift and reporting time.
Exam day checklist
- Carry your printed admit card, a valid photo ID (preferably Aadhaar) and a passport-size photo.
- Reach the centre early; gates close before the shift begins.
- Do not carry phones, watches, calculators or study material.
Answer key and result
- NTA releases provisional answer keys and response sheets a few days after each session. You can challenge answers online for a fee.
- Session 1 results come in February 2027, with NTA scores (percentiles).
- After Session 2, NTA publishes the All India Rank (AIR), based on the better of your two scores, in late April or early May 2027.
JoSAA counselling and admission
- Candidates in the top 2.5 lakh register for JEE Advanced 2027 if they want an IIT seat.
- JoSAA counselling allots seats at IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs, usually from June.
- Fill in your institute and branch choices on the JoSAA portal.
- Seats are allotted in rounds based on rank, category and choices.
- Accept your seat, pay the fee and complete document verification.
