In a major development affecting lakhs of medical aspirants across the country, the National Testing Agency (NTA), with the approval of the Government of India, has officially cancelled the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026.

The agency has announced that the examination will be re-conducted on fresh dates, which will be notified separately through official channels.

The decision comes amid growing concerns and allegations regarding examination integrity and possible paper leak issues reported from multiple regions. Following the controversy, the matter has reportedly been referred for further investigation by central agencies.

NEET (UG) is India’s largest undergraduate medical entrance examination and serves as the gateway for admissions into MBBS, BDS, AYUSH, and other medical courses across government and private institutions nationwide. More than 22 lakh students are believed to have appeared for the examination this year.

In its notice, the NTA stated that fresh examination dates and revised instructions for candidates will be announced separately. Students have been advised to regularly check the official NTA and NEET websites for updates regarding the re-examination schedule, admit cards, and further guidelines.

The cancellation has triggered widespread reactions among students, parents, and educational institutions, with many expressing concerns over the additional stress and uncertainty caused by the decision. At the same time, several stakeholders have welcomed the move, stating that maintaining transparency and fairness in national-level examinations is critical.
